Technical Illustration

Technical illustration is a specialised skill, essentially trying to explain how something is put together or how it operates, to someone who may never have seen the item before.

Illustrations can do much more than simply capture attention. Effective use of illustrations is one of the secrets of producing really good documentation. Properly placing them in a document can be the most effective way of conveying complex ideas or demonstrating a sequence of operation. In addition, they provide visual relief from large blocks of text and make any document much more readable.

Even in today′s highly computerised world, it still takes expertise to create the kind of illustrations that make product manuals easier to follow or add visual appeal to a promotional document.

Technical illustrations can be used in:

  • User Guides
  • Installation Instructions
  • Operator Instructions
  • Maintenance Manuals
  • Repair Manuals
  • Data sheets
  • Catalogues
  • Training Material

As well as the technical illustrations discussed above, I also create maps and infographics. These can be used in presentations, annual reports, marketing materials and technical documents like data sheets and white papers.

Please get in contact if you would like to discuss any up and coming projects.
